The Wick Reviews

Reviews? What's all this about reviews of The Wick?

The Wick, St Albans, as opposed to The Wick, a lovely house in Richmond once owned by bearded windmill Pete Townshend of The Who.

Wait, what? There's a house called 'The Wick' in Richmond, Surrey? How very dare they...

There is too. Townshend sold it in 2021 , for £15 Million, seeing as how you ask. Oh yes, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards used to live next door in The Wick Cottage. We're still talking about The Wick in Richmond right now, not the proper, actual Wick, here in deepest St Albans.

What about The Wick Reviews then? Cut to the end...

Ah yes, these (below) are reviews on The Wick's Google profile. We'll pull out most of them below for your convenience, otherwise you can find the lot right here on The Wick's Google Profile or click on the name of the reviewer and you're taken to their Google profile, where you can find the original, if you're that way inclined.

NOTE: Anyone who leaves a four star review disappoints us considerably here at The Wick. Yet, those four stars empower us. We go off and explore how we've let a visitor down.

We generally immediately call a meeting, at The Boot in town and workshop ideas. We go through the lot: offers, initiatives to get that extra star. There are Post-it Notes everywhere when we've finished. We only like FIVE STAR REVIEWS here at The Wick.

Consequently anyone who leaves a three star or below review or rating is likely to upset us so much they'll just be immediately barred from The Wick for a period up to and including life, if not longer.

Help yourself to the reviews below, we'll continue to append these with other reviews and responses to help you understand The Wick's story, how it's evolving, what we've tested and what's coming in 2023 and beyond and - importantly - how users of The Wick are responding.

I recently discovered The Wick when out delivering in my job.

Me and my sis went for a little  walk round it last night. What we saw was so lovely, very peaceful and tranquil. Need to walk to playground next. I'm so happy to find this place. 🙏🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️😊😀💜💟

Thanks Sarah!

Please visit The Wick again soon, while it's still free and be careful of our newly-arrived Highland Cattle! Well, Highland Cow would be more accurate, we've only the one so far.

We've just changed the cow's name (from Anne) to Priti.

Highland Cattle are usually quite gentle and stay away from people so you should be safe. They're not too intelligent at the best of times though and sometimes forget this. Especially Priti, she is a really REALLY stupid cow.

17th MAY UPDATE: Changed the cow's name back to Anne Main. Calling her Priti was just nasty. No one deserves that.

Lovely woods with children's play area pond and play field's, clean and well maintained. Great spot for dog walking, can you find the fairy doors  in various trees and keep an eye out for painted stones!

Response from the owner 9 months ago

Thanks for letting us know you enjoyed your visit to The Wick Phil! Do note though, all the painted stones need to be removed before the Highland cattle are introduced to The Wick, as they're said to irritate them. Thanks again! The Wick

Beautiful wild and quiet lovely to walk round the wood with its pond or the field both 10 to 15 minutes to cover simple but good children's play area also

No childrens football played on field anymore due to neighbouring properties objecting to noise in the past shame as it would add character back to the wick, footpath in woods is natural so can get muddy, although same neighbouring buzz kills want a paved path. Enjoy while you still call this beautiful space

Kaiser Saucy, thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback about your experience with us.

You're correct of course. Some residents whose massive detached houses with huge gardens backing on to The Wick have complained about the noise of kids playing football, not to mention dogs barking, people having picnics, birds singing, the ocasional landing by the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, the life-saving Helicopter Emergency Medical Service for the critically ill and injured of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.

We'd ignore them normally, but they're all quite wealthy and influential so we're probably just going to pave over The Wick completely at some stage, so they can park on it.

THANKS!

Thanks Wanda. There's nothing fishy about your five star review. You're welcome back to The Wick anytime! If the combination padlocks have been fitted when you do return, the combination will be 2023. Don't tell anyone though! Yours, The Wick

Thanks ever so much Graham. We hope one day you will revisit us and we'll earn that extra star. We really want that fifth star. We really do.

The Boot, St Albans

The Boot in town has graciously hosted several fact-finding workshops after we've received four star or fewer reviews. Get yourselves there now, in a use it or lose it kind of way. We do NOT need any more St Albans pubs closed and turned into something that's not a pub. This nonsense needs to stop now. The Boot has been most accommodating and hardly any of us have been barred. Especially since we stopped using dance as a way of expressing our feelings about those four star reviews of The Wick.

Back to The Boot: The Boot is like a pub you'd get Hugh Grant urgently pulling up outside in his Mini. Parking badly under the astonished gaze of a passing traffic warden, he bounds in, his foppish hair akimbo as he searches frantically for Elizabeth Hurley, the princess of people's hearts. This would be happening at a critical, dramatic point in a Richard Curtis film. That’s if Richard Curtis ever became aware some places outside of Central London exist of course.

It's largely because of the lovely, emotive atmosphere in The Boot and the generous expenses The Wick provides that we make so little progress when analyzing user feedback. Consequently, if you're finding yourself unhappy with your The Wick experience,, or your comments or complaints about the management of The Wick have not been satisfactorily resolved, you should blame it on The Boot. Not us.

Thanks James!

The Wick is indeed a great place to take a toddler. Thanks for your visit and a big thank you for taking your toddler home with you. Quite a few folk have been forgetting to do that this year. Consequently, we've quite a collection in the shed!

So much so, we're considering renting the half dozen we've got out to people who don't have toddlers and want to walk round The Wick with one, throw it sticks and things. Put a hat on it, I don't know. We done a poem:

Come to The Wick for a toddler walk,

Bring your own, or let's have a talk.

You can borrow one left, forgotten bereft,

it's just a loan, not toddler theft.

Don't take it home as that would be weird,

We'll rehome them eventually and in court we'll be cleared.

It's not our best plan admittedly. There are a few regulatory issues, to say the least. Either way, the wee toddlers are making themselves useful painting pebbles and feeding the Highland Cattle. Okay, Highland Cow, we've only the one so far: Anne Main, named after, errr... Anne Main.

THANK YOU JAMES.
